It is not a scam - but it is a scam enabler. Yes, it was in a bubble that deflated. It is worthless, wasteful, and unusable and will remain so at any price.

its not worthless to the wealthy elite who launder vast sums of money w/ it, or hackers who ransom files for it, or those who use it in online drug markets, or privacy conscious netizens your words dont negate the price people are willing to pay for cryptographically sound money

bitcoin is probably orders of magnitude more efficient than the entire rest of the global financial system, all things considered. the race to mine bitcoin more efficiently will drive renewable energy research and infrastructure investment

LOL. 3.5 transactions per second, on average. Visa - tens of thousands transactions per second. This Zelle thing that virtually nobody has heard of, established 3 years ago, had more transactions the last year than Bitcoin during its whole 10-year history. Etc. Wake up.

It’s weird when engineers cite performance limitations in a massively decentralized peer to peer network as some kind of inherent limitation that engineering and different consensus technologies can’t fix.

Seriously, if you are referring to Bitcoin, it is NOT massively decentralized, and to say otherwise is laughable.

Matt was specifically saying "It’s weird when engineers cite performance limitations in a massively decentralized peer to peer network" in regard to Bitcoin specific limitations.

In my reading, in regard to the general problem of decentralized payments design. Let's see what the refs say!

The Bitcoin transaction rate — which was the subject of this thread — is essentially the same regardless of whether there are three miners or 3,000. Nick’s points about decentralization are tangent here.

You called it a "massively decentralized" system, which is not true.
