Microsoft's June PAC filing is out, and shows that last month Microsoft decided to join Google in donating to Greg Gianforte, the Montana congressman who assaulted a journalist.pic.twitter.com/xKup4Y7N0C

Microsoft also decided to celebrate #pride early by donating $5K (the per-election maximum) to staunchly anti-LGBT congressman Kevin McCarthy on May 3pic.twitter.com/jB8Fu1LRvJ

Microsoft showed similar respect to its gay, lesbian, queer and trans employees with this $15,000 donation to the National Republican Senate Committee on May 9. These are public filings; Microsoft doesn't even care enough to defer this stuff for when it's not celebrating #pridepic.twitter.com/DK2vQTpOPF

And this $5000 donation from Microsoft to "David Duke without the baggage" Steve Scalise came in on May 22. That's also the maximum allowed donation per election. Scalise has spoken at a white supremacist rally, and in front of the radically anti-LGBT Family Research Councilpic.twitter.com/4XZrZ1iURK

On May 9, Microsoft donated $5000 to the "Rely on Your Beliefs Fund", a leadership PAC whose 2018 giving includes a $2500 disbursement to indicted California congressman Duncan Hunter, and a $5000 disbursement to Roy Moore.pic.twitter.com/uBrLv8H1it

Last year, Robert Aderholdt introduced an amendment that the Human Rights Campaign says "would have forced the federal government to fund adoption and foster care agencies that discriminate against LGBT people for 'religious' or 'moral' reasons." Microsoft gave him $1K on May 8.pic.twitter.com/f7AYoUpF3r

Mike Rounds is a co-sponsor of the First Amendment Defense Act in the Senate, an attempt to broadly legalize discrimination against people on the basis of their sexual orientation. Microsoft paid $2500 into his campaign on May 15.pic.twitter.com/wj1OAXM684

On May 1, Jim Sensenbrenner deployed a procedural stunt (https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2019/05/01/republicans-stall-lgbt-rights-law-clerk-read-entire-bill/ …) to delay a vote on the Equality Act, which of course he opposed. Microsoft gave him $2000 a week later.pic.twitter.com/fR5s8zOH8E

In 2017, John Cornyn recommended Jeff Mateer to a lifetime appointment on the Federal bench. Mateer's nomination sank after it was revealed he once described transgender children as part of "Satan's plan", but Cornyn never withdrew support. On May 22, Microsoft gave $5000 to Steve Scalise's "Eye Of The Tiger PAC," an entity whose donations in 2018 included $2500 to openly white supremacist Iowa congressman Steve King (disclosure: I fundraised for King's opponent)pic.twitter.com/hJ1ruZcX06

Greg Walden was one of 7 republicans to flip his vote in 2016 on an amendment protecting LGBT workers from discrimination by Federal contractors (see https://www.rollcall.com/news/democrats-pounce-vulnerable-republicans-suspected-switching-vote-lgbt-protections …). And finally we have this donation of $1000 from Microsoft to far-right congressman Mark Walker, who famously referred to his women colleagues as "eye candy" during a 2017 press conference (https://www.cnn.com/2017/09/26/politics/mark-walker-eye-candy-remarks/index.html …).pic.twitter.com/riIkUsQZpw

I know employees at Microsoft are doing extraordinary work to get this PAC defunded. If you work there and want to help, reach out to your coworkers who are donating to Microsoft's PAC—the full list is here: https://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/226/201906199150098226/201906199150098226.pdf …. Make sure they know what they're donating to.

Microsoft has made some bold statements in the context of #pride and more generally. So hold their feet to the fire! Their political giving is so out of touch with their stated values that one of them has to give. As Apple and IBM have demonstrated, you don't need a PAC at all.
