Microsoft's May FEC filing is out, and something that sticks out is that the company donated last month to a lot of Virginia state races. Someone who knows VA politics should take a look at the disbursements starting on page 144 http://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/794/201905179149722794/201905179149722794.pdf …

Microsoft gave Kirk Cox $1500. This article outlines Cox continuing efforts to deny undocumented people an education in Virginia, and to require police to ask about citizenship during an arrest. (This last policy makes everyone less safe)https://observer.com/2019/02/kirk-cox-virginia-governor-undocumented-immigrants/ …

Kind of weird how these companies try to be the Good Guys and write op-eds on how immigrants help the country ,and then turn around and donate money to precisely those who oppose such ideas

I keep waiting for
@pinboard to dig in to this and find out how corporate donations actually work. I cannot shake the idea that there is some layer of indirection in play (i.e. right-wing consultants who take large fees to invest your money in high-yield political donations)2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes
At the Federal level, at least, the donations are a sideshow to the actual lobbying effort. I flagged the state house stuff here because it's weird. Only Microsoft of the Big 5 seems to give to state races
