Instead what we saw was a massive payout to the parties most at fault, which while completely defensible from a financial stability point of view, gave us a lot of social instability while further concentrating wealth, to the point where it is not put to productive uses

Agree that rescuing the companies/leadership without consequences was not ideal. I'm curious about what you think changes in the current climate if more punitive actions were taken a decade ago. (Maybe they're incremental changes rather than dramatic ones?)
