I think the fundamental obstacle in the US is a lack of political will to prioritize public transit, whether local or LD. To upgrade the track infra, it will require pub funds and eminent domain and there will be pushback from those who don’t want to pay because they don’t use it

In kind of is really. If you don’t have the political will and local buyin (also the federal one in the US case) it’s impossible to bulldoze and build a new route to get this. And yes the TGV has that and ICE etc etc. I mean how could you get Amtrak to build a fast trainline?
