Honestly, this op-ed was an advertisement for Google, and the failure to disclose the open conflict of interest does not reflect well on the New York Times. It should be brought to the attention of the public editor, as soon as they decide to have one again.

I don't think that's the situation. The NYT is a large organization and they hold themselves to a high standard. This is just a case where the tracking is so much a part of publishing that they don't even notice the conflict
