I notice the GDPR opt-out forms run on behalf of publishers by Meredith (whatever that is) include a Google re-captcha. So what happens if you've already refused Google the use of your data?

GDPR has allowed me to refuse my data to be transferred to third parties I distrust during various sales. It has allowed me to ask companies to give me my own information, where before they would simply decline the request. It's a powerful consumer weapon and I love it.
-
Do you get notification about the sales and the chance to opt out, or did you have to find out about it yourself? And what kind of information downloads did you get?

loads of US news sites just gave up and decided to show some variant of: "gdpr? more like tl;dr. We don't wanna get sued tho so our tech boys looked it up and found an HTTP error 451, so here, have one of those"

Facebook let Cambridge Analytica harvest data before GDPR and people suddenly voted for Brexit, kind of an horror story
-
GDPR does not protect against this kind of political manipulation at all. It just pushes the tools for it into Facebook proper.
