Anything you found inspirational in 2018 (like lots of small donors backing charismatic candidates like Beto or Ojeda) is going to be efficiently monetized and exploited in 2020. This was like the 'blog era' of online fundraising; get ready for "Facebook acquires ActBlue"

Oh, just to make you feel worse—as a political fundraiser, you know the thing I found works best? Massive Twitter drama. You will raise easily 10x the money from an online freakout that you would from a real event with real people. Context-free high dudgeon = $$$$. Enjoy 2020!

Let me give you a specific example. In December 2017, I rented an entire Unitarian church in NYC and flew three candidates out for a fundraiser. It cost me about $4K, and raised $30K. Then I posted about it on Twitter, and someone called me a liar...https://twitter.com/Pinboard/status/942584432854228992 …

This person's account was later suspended. His tweet calling me a liar raised 3x more money than the event he was trying to debunk. The lesson here is: never do events, just get into tweetfights. But the people in that church represented valuable political capacity, unlike tweetspic.twitter.com/5W2KtktjwL
