My plea today to all people in tech: we need to stand with our trans co-workers who are under attack. That means not letting the companies we work for pretend to champion equality while bankrolling bigoted politicians. Make them choose one or the other. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/21/us/politics/transgender-trump-administration-sex-definition.html …

If Google, Facebook, Salesforce, Amazon, Twitter want to continue to fund conservative causes, make huge political donations to right-wing ideologues, and work to re-elect a Republican Congress that will be complicit in denying our colleagues their humanity, make them admit it

If they want to be on the side of history, humanity, equality, and decency, then they need to stop giving money to the far right. This isn't an agonizing moral choice. Apple shows how easy it is to not give campaign donations to right-wing politicians and thrive as a business

What they can no longer do is speak out of both sides of their mouth on the issue. We are 16 days from an election in which Republicans in many of the closest races are backed by big tech companies, while Trump promises to strip rights from trans people. This is intolerable.

Yesterday I gave concrete examples from just September. Here is the thread on Microsoft (https://twitter.com/Pinboard/status/1053804655602528256 …), the thread on Google (https://twitter.com/Pinboard/status/1053776911036542977 …), the thread on Facebook (https://twitter.com/Pinboard/status/1053788602394664961 …). Here's every tech-funded Kavanaugh vote:https://twitter.com/Pinboard/status/1048990207515611137 …
Pinboard added,
Pinboard @PinboardHere is a spreadsheet of all the senators who voted for Kavanaugh, along with the money they have been given by the "liberal" tech giants in Silicon Valley. Let me respond to a few questions I've seen posted about this. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1j-3eA9DpezjeGwljpTP6W1eSe1XwPn0eY28l9-GpuQk/edit#gid=0 …Show this thread1 reply 19 retweets 60 likesShow this thread -
Much of the Republican Senate is working to push through ferociously anti-trans Federal judges. If people who follow the judiciary can help me find examples of those votes, I'll make a list of the political donations that went to them from big tech. Together we can de-fund this!

The immediate goal we need, right now, is a Democratic House. We need power. If you can give money to a close race that needs it, do it! If you can volunteer, knock doors, phone bank (which doesn't require you to be in the district)—do that! And help get people to vote!
