In-flight internet on the way back to Anchorage from Barrow is about five times faster than internet at the Tuzzy Library—the main library serving the entire North Slope of Alaska (and a wonderful place). Clearly we have the technology to do better for people, but don't.

They talk a lot about all the work they do providing comms for the remote villages and hospitals. Super important, and I'm glad someone is doing it. But they use mostly already-EOL hardware and take massive tax write-offs for it.

On top of charging high-ish rates to urban customers, and having data caps. Which they compound by refusing to invest in capacity expansion at any appreciable rate. A refusal they justify by claiming that it'd take away from investment in providing infrastructure for remote areas
