We're closing in on nearly half a million dollars donated since October 1. That's simply a phenomenal amount of money. I'm up in Alaska on the North Slope and just saw an @AlyseGalvin ad on TV. It's well-produced and persuasive. Keep going!https://secure.actblue.com/donate/great_slate …

I know there are some wealthy people in this feed who can afford to make a $35,100 maximum donation to the Great Slate, who are persuaded that it's a good use of money in the abstract, who hope others will do it, but who just haven't done it themselves. This tweet's for you!

Quite honestly, my two top reasons for never baking campaign contributions: 1. Don't want to be on http://OpenSecrets.org 2. Think the money can do more good given to other causes. Change my view?

1. You don't want to live in a country where people can make large, anonymous political donations. It's a necessary thing. 2. It's a tight House race that could come down to 1-2 seats. Failing to win means a rigged census, huge mandate for Trump-like political tactics for years

I’m not opinionated on this, by the way. I’ve been earnestly debating political contributions this cycle for the first time in my life.
@Pinboard is a big reason for that. But I’m unconvinced on the moral utility.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

Regardless of the other stuff, don't give to the ACLU. They're past the point of having a use for the money and are spending it on some iffy, speculative stuff. (The state-level ACLUs are a different animal, and merit support)

I would say that MSF, IRC and the ACLU are all trying to fix problems many of which are caused by the current US government. So political donations, if successful, address a problem at the source that you are otherwise trying to heal the symptoms of
