The critique here is that we have a disproportionate amount of power as software engineers and we should put our money where our mouths are. Take a stand, not in some quiet way that serves our employers but loudly in a way that implicates them and encourages reform.

I don't think internal organizing is ineffective. But I aver that most of what people call internal organizing is really blowing off steam, and they are getting repeatedly played by management that has grown skilled at placating them.
