And vulnerability counting isn’t the whole story. The whole story is that Apple has much more control of the hardware, while Google (even in its own phones) has largely been assembling their own (much less widely sold) product lines from other parts.

Also a lower bar. Msft did a ton, but it’s not like Android is using strcpy or not handling vulns. I still question if it’s a problem of priorities vs a consequence of some business decisions Andy Rubin made ten years ago.

Agree Rubin (per Google acquisition) chose low road & that means more players, lower standards, more room for errors and sloppy decisions or defaults that have inferior consequences vs. Apple. There's no way around it. High road is more secure. Why I use Apple gear, laptop+phone.

Google would *start* today, but results would be years down road. I agree they could; will they? Bottom line (ARPU, esp. vs Apple) matters. Also multi-year structures set in place (contracts with OEMs, Opereators). Again it's in the physical realm, but biz bottom line? Not clear.
