Listening to two new friends in the hall at a conference trying to figure out which secure chat apps they each have that work together. Back in my day everyone had AIM and if they were a real freak you had an ICQ number memorized.

ahem: back in the day we all used trillium because equal thirds of our friends and colleagues where on AIM, MSN and Yahoo Messenger and you didn't know day to day what interconnects would work

the very first recorded example of someone bemoaning the lost golden age (Hesiod) dates to the very first era when we had writing to record that they were bemoaning the loss of the golden age

it comforts me that we have always had the myth that the past was better, as far back as we can measure into the past

I assume you're implying that it's human nature to glamorize the past, but this observation is also consistent with life getting constantly worse.

The only thing hoarier than people mourning for a lost Golden Age is people mocking the nostalgia.

In this case it was kind of true though, around 1200 BC was a widespread civilizational collapse which Greece had only just begun to come back from by his time.
