Worth remembering in this context that Facebook and Twitter have made direct campaign donations to sitting members of the House Intelligence Committee (Devin Nunes and Elise Stefanik respectively). But wait, there's more!... 1/nhttps://twitter.com/RMac18/status/1022220822830768129 …

Here's Facebook donating in December 2017 to Richard Burr, who sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, for his 2022 primary. What a forward thinking company! http://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/206/201802020200109206/201802020200109206.pdf …pic.twitter.com/wmI2xIGHSF

Google's PAC showed a similar solicitude for Senator Wyden's 2022 re-election prospects in May of 2017, giving him $1000 for this far-off campaign. Coincidentally, Wyden also sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee. http://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/691/201707200200232691/201707200200232691.pdf …pic.twitter.com/A7QMTRVMTb

Facebook and Google both made a sizable donation to the 2020 re-election campaign of Senate Intelligence Committe member Jim Risch, an Idaho Republican whose values are no doubt deeply consonant with these Bay Area tech giants.pic.twitter.com/ZfiPmICjiR

A concern I heard repeatedly when I was trying to organize Google workers: "why isn't my company doing more to re-elect Senate Intelligence Committee member Marco Rubio in 2022?" http://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/119/201707170200171119/201707170200171119.pdf …pic.twitter.com/MQ8B81jEyT

Here's Facebook's $2500 donation to the 2022 campaign of the junior senator from Oklahoma, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Facebook was perhaps moved to donate by Lankford's belief that homosexuality is a choice, or that federal health care is unconstitutional.pic.twitter.com/nCh9U3ZjpA

Both Google and Facebook have given generously to the re-election campaign of Martin Heinrich, who as it happens is also a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee.pic.twitter.com/aG513ReMjp

These two tech giants also found some money to donate to another serving member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Angus King.pic.twitter.com/p2P1TZKhOc

Nor is there any bad blood between Google, Facebook and Senator Joe Manchin, who serves on the Senate Intelligence Committee.pic.twitter.com/NVHTHV7Gsy

So by my count, of the fifteen members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, at least eight have taken significant recent political donations from Facebook and Google, and will no doubt recuse themselves when those companies are called to appear in September.
