Yeah, that's what surprises me. This is a device that Apple techs are supposed to use routinely for data recovery. Why not give it a robust cable and connector?

If I were trying to prevent unauthorized repair shops from being able to compete "reorder this part from us every 30 repairs" would seem like a pretty effective strategy.
