Cautionary tale: I took my MacBook Pro in to get the defective keyboard replaced. Apple store techs broke the logic board when opening the case, then sent the machine to a third-party vendor who replaced the SSD without authorization. The whole process took 10 days.

Since the keyboard is involved, I presume it was a 2016+ MBP—where the SSD is soldered to the logic board. So if they kill that, yes, it’s difficult. Not to excuse the whole keyboard fiasco, which they should be bending over backwards for in the first place.

Yes, it was. The damage was to the logic board ribbon connector, and they did not explain that the SSD was an integral part of that board. Service issues aside, I think the aggressive quest for thin laptops is at fault. In an older machine, I could have popped the SSD out.
