Cautionary tale: I took my MacBook Pro in to get the defective keyboard replaced. Apple store techs broke the logic board when opening the case, then sent the machine to a third-party vendor who replaced the SSD without authorization. The whole process took 10 days.

Yeah I never liked that shit. It doesn't have to be an admin pw that can decrypt your FileVault tho. Not that they tell you this.

Then why did you do it? This is a nonstarter for a reasonable person to make. I'm not sure why you'd ever give any repair shop a hard drive with data on it... Even without the password.

I mean, you demonstrated the buyout price for the data people entrusted to you is the cost of buying a new laptop. Why should anyone entrust you with private data in the future?
