A troubling implication of Trump's war on immigrants that I believe has not received sufficient attention is what it means for the upcoming US Census. The census happens every ten years, and the Constitution says you have to count everyone.

The only thing I can say is, we have to figure out how to win in November. Without at least one house of Congress in opposition, and willing to use its enormous power to protect the institutions of our democracy, we will be trapped in this cycle of outrage a long time.

People I’ve talked to specifically cite billionaires like Bloomberg being so influential as reasons they don’t care about primaries. Voting is actually effort for poor people and they see both parties as pandering to rich assholes so they don’t see the point in participating.

This is absolutely true. Also, people have a folk understanding of how campaign finance works, and they assume (somewhat correctly) you give a candidate unlimited money, which acts as a further brake on trust.
