What is your position on Facebook capturing a large part of all profits in the digital ad distribution industry? Is that not part of the problem?

Ads can be targeted to content, not user profiles, at which point the tension between privacy and ads largely goes away. Conflating advertising with the surveillance ecosystem that has grown up around it serves only the large ad networks, which is really where the money flows.

Clickbait is more an artifact of surveillance, not the ad business model. What you had before surveillance was coarse-grained feedback (subscriptions are down this month) rather than being able to evaluate each sentence of a story in real time. Journalism was better for it.
