Infrared is low bandwidth, if a dust cloud causes dimming in the visible spectrum it will cause st least some dimming in the infrared.
On the other hand low bandwidth means low temperature. The lack of a drop in the visible bandwidth that is not in the infrared would indicate a drop in temperature of the star itself
