It makes me feel like they were more interested in feeling like they were a part of some counterculture than interested in skepticism
@Qui_GonGin This feels like a credible hypothesis.
I could totally seeing that happening to me, if I were dumb and not interested in reflection, listening, and learning.
People need to look for the positive intention in those with whom they disagree. Wokeness, insistence on inclusive language for instance, is at its best about rehumanizing people. Saying, “no, REALLY, everyone counts.” Look for the positive intention. (Do NOT apply to sociopaths)
I was a Vlogger in the skeptisphere for a long while, fairly popular as well... But there was always a rift... and Gamergate Polarized the dying Skeptic community & ripped it asunder. Refugees from that community went 1 of 2 directions. Alt-right, or Socialism. (part 1/2)
Skeptics who went Left had become skeptics to correct harm religion and pseudoscience did. They wanted to make a difference. Those who slid right had adopted skepticism cuz they wanted to be bullies. Its that simple, & nothing changed for them. The S.C was never whole. (2/2)
It's just a continuation of "anti-sjw".
And Anti-pc before...
They weren't very skeptical it seems.
