I just found out Twitch allows streamers to unlock emotes for total bits cheered. I'd like to use this opportunity to remind everyone Twitch Bits are a rip-off (especially for non USD countries). At the highest discount, I'd pay ~375$ to give a streamer 250$ worth of bits.
Still better than subs :P But yeah twitch is doing an amazing job at ensuring they are the middle man for most transactions. Back in the day there were a lot more donations and now its gifted subs, bits,etc,and they gave most affiliate so they can make money from their subs too

With subs you can at least argue you get something for your bucks. Emotes. Sub replay packs. Sub games with the steamer etc. Plus better negotiating position for the streamer for partner contracts. Bits however are just a waste if you want to monetarily support someone
