All politics are identity politics. Class is an identity, though it's a weak one compared to race, creed or culture, especially where the US WWC are concerned.

The New York Times reports that Mitch McConnell “for the first time is facing pressure from members of his own party to step in to resolve the stalemate that has left 800,000 federal workers either furloughed or working without pay.”

I am a retired senior executive from IRS. The agency is impacted by the shutdown and is rarely mentioned in the news. Major problems will happen with tax processing because of this 2 wk delay. Do we not understand the role of IRS?

  5. The Trump administration, which had not anticipated a long-term shutdown, recognized only this week the breadth of the potential impact, several senior administration officials said. they should never be given authority to govern again. ever.

  11. Mitch McConnell's winning streak on judicial nominees is hitting a speed bump. The fate of 70 of Trump's judicial nominees is in limbo after McConnell and Chuck Schumer failed to agree on a way to move them forward at the close of the 115th Congress.

Mitch is gonna demand judges and a bridge to vote the CRs out. He'll sell Trump out for a few judges and a bridge. He sold out Boehner/Ryan/Cruz in the 2013 shutdown for a bridge.

  14. I guess it’s already clear to my followers, but I might as well come right out and say it: if runs, he’s my candidate. Nothing against anyone else. Glad to support whoever wins the nod. But I like Brown and think he can win the Midwest, and that’s the ballgame.

  15. With 800,000 federal workers furloughed or working w/o pay -- incl. at our airports & the Peoria Ag Lab -- the Trump Admin. is preparing to dole out raises for senior officials that are 1/4 of what the average person makes in our region. This is absurd!

  17. Americans deserve to know: the government funding package passed by the House yesterday is the *exact same* plan passed by the just weeks ago. And yet, now, they refuse to vote on it.

She's the queen maker folks.... more so than Obama. Beto is Barack's guy.... so we'll be waiting on Hillary's preference. The 2020 primary will be Obama vs Clinton via proxy with Sanders as a wildcard.

  21. Absurd, ignorant, and painfully cruel misconception. Backpay is not guaranteed for federal workers and unlikely for contract staff. Government shutdowns are costly: for workers without pay; for agencies whose workload backs up; for Americans who deserve a functioning government.
