If you're a "sex-positive" feminist, with a focus on individual agency, this really is a genuinely difficult issue.https://twitter.com/caitlin_roper/status/988666869774041088 …
I didn't get to where I am today - nowhere, obviously - by tweeting.

Jeremy Stangroom added,
One should think twice before using slavery analogies. If consent is necessarily something that can be withdrawn (as contemporary usage implies), then “consent to slavery” is a contradiction in terms.
Not sure that works if we're talking about symbolic representations, for example. A depiction of a rape, for example, whether in film, or story, etc., doesn't include within it the possibility for the depicted victim to withdraw their consent.
Seems like there are two separate issues here. One is the representation and its effects on consumers. This strikes me as similar to the theory that violent video games cause mass shootings. The other is how consent is discussed in the article. 1/
It isn't necessarily similar to whether video games cause mass shootings. Rae Langton, for example, has developed a rights based argument against certain kinds of depictions. This is well discussed in the literature.
