FWIW, I think Thomson's argument is weak, and a much better argument for the permissibility of abortion can be constructed by centering personhood as the key moral variable.

Yeah, Thomson's argument always sounds libertarian; the idea that we have no ethical obligation beyond ourselves. Sure, you can see this as a legal point, but even there it's close to an argument against a national health service, say.
