Plus, there's something of the true by definition about the way the dilemma is constructed. If somebody makes a "discovery", it demonstrates they're extraordinary. If they don't, then they're not.

It's just bad thinking to suppose that if something is inadequately supported it's "useless". Why on earth would that be the case? You might have an insight, but not the tools to flesh it out.
