There's agreement among academics because it better captures the systematic nature of racism. We try to explain this to people, and I'm happy to send an article to you, but people push back against it because, usually, it upsets their worldview.

Ooooh, there's agreement amongst sociologists (which there isn't) that settles it then! It's a rhetorical power grab. Of course it's useful to factor in power (not exactly a genius level thought!), but the only one true definition stuff is just a boring political game.

These people behave as if they're a sociology police roaming the wastelands of social media (and academia), invoking the ghost of Auguste Comte in order to enforce proper sociological purity. It's absolute bollox.

OOO "training in sociology"; what does this mean? Also relax lol, you sound like a paranoid Republican worried that the government is going to take his guns and wage war against him 😂✌️

So I also like to annoy people on Twitter lol, but I’m mostly immune to it myself. With respect to earlier and the argument from authority that I used, basically I couldn’t be bothered explaining it to him. Especially when he was just being s pedant. 😂

That is, pretending that there are fixed sociological definitions, that sociological claims are not contested, that there is some kind of sociological authority, etc - when... well there isn't!

Don't know really. I think reparations for slavery are appropriate. I'm committed to redistribution. Wanted Clinton to win. Want eradication of poverty as major political aim. But... don't like identity politics. I don't know. Not sure label is very useful anymore.

Fair - I’ve been wondering whether I should start using he label “centrist”; but I think it’s just that the regressive left voice (a super minority) has been amplified.
