To clarify, she was a student in one of your classes? You had an impact on her qualifications?

Well, it was my last day. She handed me the note after my last lesson. So... no subsequent impact on her qualifications. Actually, I never saw her again.
-
Hmm, that removes the student/lecturer issue... but why not just ask you for a coffee or beer?
-
I have absolutely no idea! At the time, I thought there was a non-trivial chance it was some sort of dare between friends - i.e., not serious. But I was leaving, so... I didn't really think much about it.

If the target is in a position of power over you, not harassment, sylill wrong. If the target was a subordinate you have some power over, it’s harassment!
-
Hmmm. I think that's too stark. I've seen female teachers harassed by male pupils. Institutional power flows one direction, other sorts of power in other directions.
-
Good point!

I would have changed my answer had I read the comments first, from A to D, since the teacher/student relationship had ended.
-
I was interested in the general case, rather than the specific circumstances of my situation, so you answered the right way! :)
-
Gotcha. For the specific case I may have included option E: yeah, buddy. But that’s the sophomore in me who has definitely not received such a note.

When the final tally is complete, tell us, did you hand her back a note saying "thankyou for your kind offer but I'm trying to preserve my vital fluids" ??

The method was direct but gentle, it allowed you to completely ignore the request and there were no professional issues involved. Therefore I would say it wasn't even inappropriate. As adults we should be able to deal with sexual requests in a calm manner
