I tend to think Laurie Penny is a bit of a twit. But the people sending her abuse are stupid and vicious. Her apology was decent, and more than I would have offered under the circumstances.

People really do need to get it into their heads that people say stupid crap on social media, and it's not the end of the world, and they don't deserve to be destroyed because of it.

Kindness is a much underrated virtue, there should be more of it - in politics, on social media, and in our everyday lives. Justice and kindness need not be orthogonal to each other.

You're right, of course, but professional journalists also need to get it into their heads that if the 'legacy' media is going to maintain any sort of credibility they need to hold themselves to a higher standard than random shitposters.

Quite difficult. People use social media to vent, pontificate, etc - quite tough to give that up. Especially for millennials, I would guess.
