      Bertrand Russell got caught up in some political fisticuffs (literal fisticuffs). Hustings in the Victorian era used to be riotously violent.

      And there was the Poll Tax riots. Violence surrounding the Miners Strike in the 1980s. There were violent anti-Vietnam war demonstrations in the late 1960s. And so on.

      It is true, however, that compared to most other European countries, the UK has been comparatively free of revolutionary violence and upheaval. 1688 was our last - and that was more or less peaceful.

      If we count Ireland, then we have to count the United States - but they're more cessations than revolutions, I'd say.

          United States wasn't part of the UK. Ireland was from 1801 (union partially triggered due to radical 1798 rebellion), and various small revolts followed 1803, 1848, 1867, plus terrorist activity in 1880s.
