The only way to mitigate the effects of tribalism is to avoid tribes; & if you want to avoid tribes, you've got to distance yourself from people with whom you agree; & engage with people with whom you disagree.

Here's a rule of thumb for Twitter. one-third of your tweets should be rebarbative to two-thirds of your audience.

Oh, and one other thing - right now there's a pile on against P. Z. Myers. If you think pile ons are bad, then you shouldn't join in.
