Here's a rule of thumb for Twitter. one-third of your tweets should be rebarbative to two-thirds of your audience.

The thing about pile ons is everybody thinks theirs is righteous. But human beings are really, really bad at distancing themselves from the seductions of their in-group, so we shouldn't trust our judgements.
