If giving is ultimately a zero-sum sorta deal, then any tendency to reward people with lots of social capital is only going to be very suboptimally redistributive.

I wonder if the existence of GoFundme, Patreon, and the like, has the effect of siphoning money away from the most needy (particularly in poorer countries)?
