Can't watch world level athletics anymore. Just don't trust any of it. It's a shame. I used to love it.

I wonder if this a reason to legalise doping, or as least some forms of it? And is doping more widespread in athletics than other sports?

I've wondered the same thing. But you'd probably see the emergence of supposedly "dope free" competitions (which would reintroduce problem).

Or maybe fans would just accept it in the long term, in the way most fans didn't walk away when a particular sport went professional.

Maybe. But why wouldn't athletes not prepared to dope demand their own competitions? If they did, and they happened, then...

That's entirely possible, yes. But in the long-term would we continue to see separate doping and non-doping games?

And of course opportunistic dopers would still try and compete in the non-doping games.

Yes, that's the problem I meant. Non-doping athletes would demand non-doping games. Those would attract more money. Dopers would infiltrate.
