My father once did something similar. Hired a red Fiat in Italy. Drove it to Rome (I think), arrived early, & parked in a large car park...
He then returned early afternoon to begin journey home, and found the car park was full of red Fiats, and he had no idea which was his.

He waited there for hours until enough had driven away to enable him to identify his car via a process of elimination!
