If establishment, they were major cold warriors. If far left, many participated in Russian propaganda in 2016 and are unrepentant about it.

So I don't see which "left" is more anti-Russian today than during the Cold War - even though it would make complete sense (for true left).

Hmm. I've lived in the US since 1989 and parts of my family have been here since the 1950s, and I literally don't know any1 who was pro-USSR

Probably also different European experience. People weren't pro-USSR as such. It's more that almost exclusively the focus was on the sins of

the West. Partly it's to do with getting your own house in order. But not only. Criticism of the USSR was considered politically suspect.

But yes, I was really thinking of the Intelligentsia, plus I guess the anti-war movement.
