How do you get around the self-selecting sample aspect (i.e., are men less likely to report because not as traumatic)?

Good point. I think the self-selection issue is largely the same for male or female reporters in this type of comparative research.

Most victims of male rape were gay. The big problem was the study methodology - the researchers recruited participants in gay bars.
