How do you get around the self-selecting sample aspect (i.e., are men less likely to report because not as traumatic)?

Good point. I think the self-selection issue is largely the same for male or female reporters in this type of comparative research.

If studies are based on self-reports, it's hard to see how they're not question begging in terms of differential impact of sexual assault.
