If you think authoritarianism comes only from the Right, you don't know any history.
A big *bloody* lesson of history is that groups utterly convinced of their own righteousness tend to do awful things to their "enemies".

That's true. The counterpoint, though, is that fascist/racist expression is criminalizes in many countries you'd hardly call authoritarian.

American approach to free speech (which I viscerally prefer) works well as long as extreme groups are marginal. Not clear when mainstream.

History of US jurisprudence shows right wing can easily get away w/veiling threats as speech, left wing has to fight hard 4 right 2 protest.
