Just isn't true. Check out Gramsci's idea of a hegemonic project, for example. Or have a look at the work of Stuart Hall and Martin Jacques.

It wouldn't conquer tribalism, just direct it outwards to another target. But yes I agree group identification is a fundamental human trait.
