It's a necessary process of peer review of some actually quite questionable material that has hijacked 'science'.
I interviewed E. O. Wilson a few years ago about biodiversity for a book of interviews with scientists I put together.
He was a very charming guy. He'd stopped off on his way into his office to get me sandwiches & a coke. He was very taken...
with ants. Didn't have much time for new atheism (although an atheist). Very concerned about impact of species extinction.
You should read his autobiography. There's a section where he describes coming across W. D. Hamilton's ideas which is superb.
