a qualified, experienced conservative versus an unqualified, inexperienced liberal, then I'm choosing the liberal, because I'm liberal.

Why would I want somebody who might be an effective conservative if I'm not a conservative? That doesn't make sense. Ideology does count.

It counts for something. But Trump is ideologically unmoored and vastly incompetent.

Lack of competence might prevent you from voting for x. But why on earth would you vote for a competent ideological enemy?

Sure. But the incompetence may be (IMO is) also entirely unpalatable. Here's the relevant Frum piece http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/11/dont-gamble-on-trump/506207/ …

Yes, of course. But I'm not going to vote for a competent Ted Cruz if it were the case that a Democrat were incompetent.

Okay. But can't you imagine a race w/ a liberal so incompetent, and a somewhat reasonable conservative, that would flip you?

I can imagine I would flip. But I can also imagine being the sort of liberal who would never flip (because of stronger views).
