I've heard it claimed people have the right to be perceived as the gender with which they identify. But how could that possibly be true?
Because I'm responding to having seen it framed in that way. Is that okay?

sure it's ok. But it doesn't answer the question of why frame it as anything else but simple politeness.

Because the claim that there are rights is much stronger than mere politeness. So it deserves examination and critique.

it's a matter of levels. If politeness is not enough, and people are suffering, it should be a right.

But it isn't a right, so it shouldn't be a right. I don't believe you really think I might have rights *against* your perceptions
