If you punish a 94 year old for the crimes of the 21 year old version of himself, you're just punishing the wrong person.

@PhilosophyExp I get that, but you are also claiming that future me/you is in no meaningful sense the same person as now-me/you, right?
@TorquilMacneil when we talk of persons (and certainly deficient in terms of establishing culpability). But too complicated for twitter! :)

@PhilosophyExp Yes, not Twitterable, but one prob with that is it must apply to victims too: tomorrow they cannot rationally grieve -

@PhilosophyExp I think it is easier to forego personal credit than sense of compassion for victims though. -
