I suppose when Sartre suggested that hell is other people he didn't have atheist conventions & conferences in mind...

@PhilosophyExp But he did! He hated that kind of thing, being aware that we are always objectified by the look of the other, atheist or not.
@emmyzen Sure, but Sartre is ambivalent abt objectification, because it's the way we recognize subjectivity of others (cf the look).

@emmyzen I stopped after B&N (took me about a year to digest that work - that was enough). I have read "Huis Clos" several times, though! :) -
@PhilosophyExp But you must read the Critique of a Dialectical Reason. Well worth it. Or his Flaubert. At least Notebooks for an Ethics. -
@emmyzen Yeah, the Critique was the one I was avoiding! Trouble is, there's too much stuff that's well worth reading. :)
