I'm trying to understand how a group can call themselves religious and commit slaughter. How is religion used in such situations?

@Metamagician My thought is that belief in the supernatural can provide mistaken belief in the moral authority of personal feelings.
@sjzara @Metamagician Perhaps, but it can also function to delegitimize personal feelings (as, for example, in the case of same-sex love).
