@Metamagician Indeed! I had lunch with Sprigge once - he was definitely committed to the view. It wasn't just an intellectual exercise. -
@PhilosophyExp I think there's a real puzzle in the "explanatory gap" & he explains it quite well, though he doesn't use the expression.
