      I continue to be startled by the fact that people who are ostensibly liberal seem to buy into retributive justifications of punishment.

      @PhilosophyExp Depends on what you mean by liberal. On one view, retributivism respects dignity of wrongdoers by enforcing responsibility.

      @profmdwhite Part of my interest is that my brother was murdered, but it didn't alter my view that punishment is...well, wrong, pretty much.

      @profmdwhite Thanks. The real question is whether my convictions are rationally justified, hence the interest in issues of punishment.
