Why do people on the internet trot out the line "respect must be earned" as if that's self-evidently true? It isn't.

@PhilosophyExp Imagine "respect" as a sliding scale from 1 to -1. My default position would be zero, and constantly shifts with interaction
@blondgecko As I assume with you? If so, then I'd argue that is a mark of respect for the other person. Complex for twitter, though. :) 2/2
